Thaba Monaté was established as a Bushveld and Nature Resort in the mid 1980's on the farm Buisfontein, over-looking the majestic Buiskop Mountain. The Resort was the first of it's kind in the area and proved to be very successful, it has been steadily developed since it's inception and continues to be so with the present construction of an additional caravan and camping site.
An historic feature of Thaba Monaté is the Italian Dam which was built by Italian Prisoners of War who were captured in Egypt by the British Forces in 1942, and sent to South Africa were they were put to work building dams and other structures to numerous to mention here.
The re-introduction of a variety of larger game, such as Impala, Kudu and Zebra, both Chacma Baboon and Vervet Monkeys are found mainly on the mountain together with other smaller mammals and birds that were found naturally occurring in this area has added to the splendor of this unspoiled paradise affording visitors a unique bushveld experience combined with some of the most magnificent unspoiled views of the Waterberg Mountains to be found in the area.
There are large and well maintained landscape gardens surrounding the Reception Office, Restaurant, Bar and Conference Center, where there are two swimming pools set in these relaxing areas, one cold pool and the other a heated pool which can be used almost all year round as the average day-time temperature during winter is around 20c, reaching to an average of 30c in the summer months.
Thaba Monaté offers wedding facilities on a balcony over-looking the magnificent mountains and one of the private dams situated in the deep gorge where you are able to witness majestic sunsets unique to the African Bushveld.
